I am a platform engineer for spatial and camera systems with over 17 years of experience, currently working at Google. Most recently, I developed SceneCore, the scene management developer SDK for Android XR. Before that, I worked on Google's ARCore platform. My earlier work includes developing GearVR and building innovative camera and display solutions for mobile platforms.

The Latest in Android XR: Extending Mobile Apps to Intelligent Eyewear & Immersive Headsets

Spatial computing is entering a transformational phase. As Android XR expands across Intelligent Eyewear Glasses, standalone XR Headsets, and other projected devices, developers can now seamlessly extend their Android skills into the 3D space.

In this session, explore the latest in Android XR as we transition to the Jetpack XR SDK Beta. Learn how to extend mobile apps to smart glasses, construct spatial UIs with Jetpack Compose for XR and SceneCore, and leverage ARCore features like depth sensing and Geospatial APIs. We will also highlight multi-engine support across Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, and OpenXR.

Key Takeaways: Extend mobile apps to AI glasses using Device Availability APIs and Gemini integration, Build 3D spatial UIs using Jetpack SceneCore and Compose for XR , Harness ARCore depth, dimming, and Geospatial features, Leverage OpenXR, AXRIF, MRTK3, and multi-engine spatial multitasking
