Phones Away, Glasses On! The Making of DUMBO Spatial Guide

DUMBO Spatial Guide is a hands-free, narrated tour experience built for the iconic streets of Dumbo, Brooklyn. It recognises real-world landmarks through Meta AI glasses and guides you with contextual audio, all while your phone stays in your pocket.

This talk walks through our journey, from prototyping computer vision approaches to understand when someone "looks" at a point of interest for indoor and outdoor spaces, to the user experience challenges of guiding someone without a screen. You'll hear about the technical decisions, the dead ends, and what it takes to ship an XR product when there's no existing playbook to follow.
