Chrystian Vieyra Cortes is Director of Engineering at Thomson Reuters, where he leads mobile teams building cross-platform news experiences. A longtime Android and iOS developer, Chrystian specializes in sensor data visualization and has published several popular educational apps. Originally from Celaya, Mexico, he came to the United States as a student to earn a B.S. in Computer Science from Western Illinois University and later made the U.S. his permanent home.
AI Made Coding Faster. Why Aren’t We Shipping Faster?
AI can now generate code, tests, documentation, and pull requests in a fraction of the time. Yet many teams are not shipping meaningfully faster.
The reason is simple: implementation was only one part of a complex system. As coding accelerates, the bottleneck moves downstream to architectural review, pull request fatigue, QA pipelines, release coordination, and the human attention required to understand machine-generated changes. What happens when machine-speed output enters an engineering system designed around human-speed production?
Drawing on practical leadership experience with agentic development and mobile delivery, this talk examines a systemic trap: local productivity gains can increase review queues, expand work in progress, and create new pressure across the delivery process. Attendees will learn how to identify where their bottleneck has moved, reduce downstream pressure, and redesign engineering workflows for faster, safer delivery in an AI-assisted organization.
