Aleksandra Kulbaka is a PhD researcher at Imperial College London, where she works on AI safety and bias in medical imaging. Before academia, she spent 4 years as a full-stack developer at Theodo UK, Birda, and IBM, building React Native apps in production. She's passionate about accessible technology and built the Accessibility Calculator for scoring mobile apps against WCAG standards. She's previously spoken at the Bitrise Mobile DevOps Summit and React Native London.
Did AI Solve React Native Accessibility? Let's Measure It
When we talk about mobile accessibility, the conversation usually stops at screen readers. But a user in bright sunlight, a parent holding a baby, someone with a temporary injury, or an aging population with changing vision - they all rely on accessible design. In this talk, I'll show why accessibility is a quality feature, and how to measure it systematically. I'll introduce an accessibility calculator I built that maps WCAG criteria to React Native apps, and test whether AI coding tools produce accessible code by default.
