Every major shift in software development has been driven by infrastructure moving to the cloud, and each time it happened, the way teams write and collaborate around code changed with it. Git, GitHub, CI/CD, AI coding assistants, and now agentic development have each pulled more of the development lifecycle online and unlocked new ways of working. Mobile development is lagging in this transformation. While web teams have been previewing pull requests in live browser environments for years, mobile teams are still passing around APKs to install onto physical devices. This talk makes the case that running apps in the cloud is the infrastructure shift mobile needs, and walks through what it concretely enables for the teams and workflows that Android engineers care about most.
